Apple Store is Down

by Mark Hodder on September 12, 2007

Apple Store Down

It’s unlikely Apple is announcing any more big products after the recent launch of the new iMacs, iPods and iLife software. However, if you check the Apple store today they have their maintenance sign posted. New products or just regular maintenance, you decide.

** Update **

They are back! They have released a new version of Logic Express… Logic Express 8

Steve Fossett This is an amazing use of existing technologies merged with the human power of Amazon Mechanical Turk. Amazon has team up with several organizations; detailed satellite imagery has been made available for his last known whereabouts.

Users are asked to review the satellite imagery and tag images with foreign objects for further review by authorities. For those of you that don’t know on Monday, September 3, 2007, Steve Fossett, the first person to fly a plane around the world without refueling and the first person to fly around the world in a balloon went missing in Nevada. An airplane he was flying failed to return. To see how it works check out the sample images below:

Through the generous efforts of individuals at several organizations, detailed satellite imagery has been made available for his last known whereabouts. This is a race against time and any help you can provide will make a huge difference. Friends and family of Steve Fossett would like to thank you for helping them with this cause.

Apple has done it again, today they announced a new line up iMacs, iPods and Apple iSoftware. The new iPod Nano is yet again smaller and boosts new enhancements such as:

  • 65 percent brighter display
  • Video support!
  • 6.5mm thin
  • Nike+ support
  • Enhanced Interface
  • 24 hour music playback or 5 hour video playback
  • and more

As always the Nano comes in a variety of colors with either 4gb or 8gb’s of flash memory and starts at $149.

Apple has also officialy announced a new iPod, the iPod Touch which is basically an iPhone without the phone. The iPod Touch is loaded with new features:

  • WiFi built in for surfing the web or downloading songs directly from iTunes store
  • Touchscreen
  • 3.5 inch Widescreen
  • 8 or 16gb flash drives
  • No Nike+ Support
  • and more

The Apple store lists the iPod Touch as being not compatiable with Nike+ which is sad news for all us Nike+ owners. I see no reason why Nike+ couldn’t be supported as the new iPod Touch is flash based and compact, maybe they will be releasing Nike+ 2.0 for the new touch screen… one can only dream.

Windows Live Messenger Beta 8.5

by Mark Hodder on September 3, 2007

Microsoft has quietly released an update to the very popular Windows Live Messenger. This version includes a re-vamped interface which is more customizable along with better parental controls. Parents are now able to set up rules regarding signing in and adding of contacts to help you control your teens chat use (although your teen probably knows all your passwords and how to bypass any locks you have on your computer).

After testing, it shows to be stable and the new graphics make it worth the download if you’re into that sort of thing. Otherwise, this new beta doesn’t add much more to the user experience…. cough *vista* cough.
